Music Booster is a unique musical place where songs, instruments, and movement are used to motivate children to improve their social, physical, communicative, cognitive, and emotional skills. Give your child a BOOST to help them get ready for daycare, preschool, or elementary school. This is an inclusive group open to children with and without special needs. Each intervention will be designed with the goals of the child and the group in mind. Sessions led by a certified music therapist. Please note that a parent or caregiver must be in attendance with the registered child.

September 2018: We’re going to start teaching group music classes at Treehouse early Learning Centre in Richmond this month! This is an integrated daycare and preschool for children with and without disabilities. It follows a Reggio Emilia approach and is run by Richmond Society for Community Living. We’re so excited to meet the children and staff there!


August 2018: New program for us! Group music therapy sessions are now offered for government or privately-sponsored refugee families with children (ages 6 and under). Music therapy will be used to help these families strengthen their English skills, learn more about Canadian culture, share their own culture with us, and prepare children for school. Sheila Lee and Sara Lavigna will be running these sessions.

March 2017: March is Music Therapy Awareness Month!

February 22, 2017: Wellness Day!!  Sheila is happy to be leading 6 music therapy workshops at St. John’s School’s Wellness Day in Vancouver.  This is an event dedicated to promoting mental health.  Sheila will be teaching the Gr. 1, 2, and 3 classes about music therapy and how they can use music as a tool to help facilitate their own wellness.  This is a great pro-active and preventive approach to bringing mental health awareness to children at an early age.

November 18,  2016: Dr. Jayne Standley, Ph.D., MT-BC, NICU-MT, is in town! Alexina and Sheila will be attending her NICU-MT (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – Music Therapy) lecture. This is Part 1 of 3 towards obtaining a NICU-MT certificate. Dr. Standley’s research into music therapy with premature babies and her development of the PAL (Pacifier Activated Lullaby) have made tremendous contributions to the field of music therapy and to families of premature babies. Below is a picture of her book, “Music Therapy with Premature Infants: Research and Developmental Interventions.

May & June 2016: Recording studio time! Alexina and Sheila have visited the Face of Today (FOT) studio with their clients twice these past 2 months.  The FOT Foundation has donated their studio in downtown Vancouver for music therapy recordings.  Music Heals has secured funding from Telus to sponsor 20 sessions in 2016 as part of their Community Fund mandate to support children, health and technology.

FOT has offered to match that donation, to total $20,000 dedicated to the project.  Music therapy clients 30 and under are eligible.  The studio is inside an old bank vault! That’s producer Krev Mack on the left and the vault door on the right.  Thank you so much to FOT, Telus, and Music Heals.

March 22, 2016: Amelia, Alexina, and Sheila are leading a special music class for 20+ Syrian refugee children at The Arts Connection.  The children have recently arrived in Canada and are staying in Richmond until they find more permanent housing.  We hope our music will welcome them to Canada, help transition them to their new home, strengthen their English skills, and connect them with some of The Arts Connection’s students!

September 9, 2015:  Richmond Society for Community Living (RSCL) will be coming to The Arts Connection for weekly adult group music therapy sessions starting this month!  RSCL is an amazing organization that provides programs and services for infants with special needs, children and adults with developmental disabilities.  They are Richmond’s largest non-profit social service provider and believe in “seeing beyond disability … to ability.”  Sessions will be led by Alexina and Sheila.

June 27, 2015: Come visit Sheila at the Music Heals tent on Sunday at Stanley Park!  Music Heals is a sponsored organization at the Scotiabank Vancouver half-marathon.  This is an annual run/walk from UBC to Stanley Park, with various organizations raising money for their cause. April 28, 2015:  Sheila has been invited to attend UBC’s follow-up meeting to last year’s Bending the Knotted Oak: Music Therapy and Music Cognition Research in Management of Neurological Disorders event.  Last year’s event was “dedicated to bringing local community members, clinicians, researchers, doctors, and specialists to come together with UBC faculty members from a variety of disciplines to discuss and define current and future interdisciplinary research opportunities around the effects of music and music therapy on common neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.” The Knotted Oak.   Woohoo! This is exciting stuff!


April 18, 2015:  Thank you to CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) for once again asking Sheila to be a part or your biennial Family EI Camp in Vancouver!  It was great meeting all the families and talking about music therapy with you all.

March 14,  2015:  Sheila and Alexina with VAMS at the Canuck Place Easter Seals camp in Squamish this year.  We set up GUITAR, PERCUSSION, and VOCAL stations for the participants to try out adaptive ways of making music.  Participants were teens with progressive life-limiting illnesses and disabilities.  We wanted to let them know that anyone can make music!!

October 27, 2014: We’re starting up our Autism Music Therapy group very soon! It will be on Tuesdays, 4:00-4:45pm at The Arts Connection in Richmond, BC starting Nov 2014. The average age of the group will be 5-8 yrs old but we will consider children who are slightly out of this age range if suitable. October 24-25, 2014: Our music therapy team attended MTABC’s 7th annual conference this weekend! We experienced two wonderful presentations from the delightful and inspiring Dr. Deforia Lane (well-known US Music Therapist working in medical settings).

Other great presenters included: Dr. Robin Hsiung, Assistant Professor in the Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, UBC; mother-daughter team Janet Ross (physiotherapist specializing in Development Pediatric Physiotherapy) and Kim Ross (music therapist); a panel discussion on collaboration with Michelle Oucharek-Deo, Katherine Wright, Olga Kastioukevich, and Deforia Lane.

September 13, 2014: The 13th Annual Music Therapy Ride is today and it’s sold out!! This is a motorcycle charity ride that raises huge funds for music therapy projects and services in BC including the Bandwagon. March 2014: Happy Music Therapy Awareness Month! We’re excited to join in and support all the awesome events this month! March 1st is A Night Out for Music Heals where bars in BC and AB will be raising funds and creating awareness for music therapy programs in Canada.

ANTH 3501 Special Topic: Anthropology of Music in Life is a course exploring ways in which people use forms of music to shape or modify their social relations and culture. What a cool course! Sheila’s presentation will focus on Music Therapy and Autism.

February 5 – May 7, 2014: Our after-school group music therapy sessions start up again at the Richmond Centre for Disability.

This wonderful “After School Connection” program is organized by the SDC Blue Ribbon Foundation. Sessions take place on Wednesdays from 3:45-5pm at #100-5671 No. 3 Rd (across from Lansdowne station in Richmond).

October 26, 2013: MTABC‘s 6th Annual Conference. We’re so lucky in BC to have had our own provincial conferences for the last 6 years.

Look for Sheila at her booth selling her “Singing under the Plum Blossom Tree” songbook — a great resource for music therapists and students working with Chinese seniors. Can’t wait to have Susan, Gemma, Chris, Martin, Louise, and Rob share their wisdom with us so that we can all continue growing as a community.

September 23 – November 4 2013: 6 weeks of Bandwagon fun flew by! The Bandwagon is the world’s 1st mobile recording studio designed specifically for Music Therapists. The BASES students at Fraser Heights Secondary were so excited to explore and record THEIR music. Joanne and Sheila worked hard to create a stimulating musical experience while also using it to help support the BASES classroom goals: Building Academic, Social and Employment Skill.  A huge thank you to the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund, Music Therapy Association of British Columbia, Music Therapy Ride Committee, and Music Heals for making this possible.

June 18-22, 2013: Sheila will be attending the Association for Music & Imagery (AMI) Conference in South Surrey, BC this year. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn and connect with other Bonny Method of Guided Imagery & Music (GIM) practitioners. Sheila is proud to announce that she is now a GIM Fellow! Big THANK YOUS to the conference committee for all your hard work and congratulations to the new Fellows!


May 21, 2013: NMT, Certified Neurologic Music Therapist! Sheila completed the NMT training through the Robert F. Unkefer Academy course which was offered in Canada for the very first time!

This is a research-based method certifying Music Therapists to use the elements of music to help clients work on their cognitive, sensory, and motor function due to neurologic disease of the human nervous system. This includes but is not limited to Parkinson’s, stroke, traumatic brain injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Huntington’s, and Autism.


April 13, 2013: CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) is offering a camp at the Metrotown Hilton hotel for families in BC that have children with vision loss. Sheila will be there presenting and offering music therapy for families to learn about, enjoy, and experience. We’re honoured to be asked to be a part of their camp this year. www.cnib.ca


April 8, 2013: Leisure Fair 2013. Sheila and her music therapy colleagues will be representing MTABC by sharing how music therapy can benefit families and children with special needs @ the Trout Lake Community Centre in Vancouver.


March 7, 2013: MUSIC THERAPY and ADAPTED MUSIC LESSONS at The Arts Connection in Richmond! We are super excited to be offering not only Early Childhood Music Classes here but also MUSIC THERAPY and ADAPTED MUSIC LESSONS! Adapted music lessons are offered for people with special needs or someone who requires a more customized program to meet their unique learning styles!


February 20 – May 22, 2013: She.Lee.Music is excited to be providing music therapy for the SDC Blue Ribbon Foundation “After School Connection” program. Sheila will be running music therapy sessions for youth with special needs ages 9-15 at the Richmond Centre for Disability.

The Foundation is run by a group of dedicated teenagers who are determined to enable their voices and actions to enact positive changes. Each participant with special needs will be paired up with a high school buddy during the after-school program. The program runs on Wednesdays from 3:45-5pm starting Feb. 20th. September 8, 2012Children’s Organ Transplant Society and Rare Disease Foundation present ‘It’s All About Me’ – Sibling Appreciation Day. This will be running from 10am-2pm inside the Chan Center at BC Children’s Hospital. Sheila will be running the music therapy portion with the participants. The aim of this day is to enhance siblings’ adjustment to living with a family member with a serious illness, reinforce their importance within the family, and provide recognition. 


September 8, 2012The Music Therapy Ride is an annual motorcycle charity ride designed to raise funds for community-based music therapy services in BC. This year riders will be meeting at Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino at 9:30am and will be escorted by the VPD’s Motorcycle Drill Team to Harrison Hot Spring’s Lakeside Café. http://musictherapyride.org/
